um, HI

I’ll start paying a little more attention to this. Honestly haven’t been watching AS MUCH anime as I used to, but I logged back in and found that I have had a TON more people following, so why not give something back?

PLEASE READ:

I came back on and tested out the website for a while and found that the search engine on this site SUCKS. (if i search for a specific name, it says it can’t find anything, even when there’s something that cooresponds to my search query on this site) So here’s what I want you to do.

Find ONE anime review that has a tag in it that appeals to you. For example, find a post on here that has “western” as one of the tags. CLICK ON IT, and up will come all the postings that are Western genres. Same thing goes for harems, drama, etc.

HOPE THAT WAS HELPFUL AND LOOK FORWARD TO SOME MORE POSTINGS.

So yeah, it’s been a while. I’ve been working a lot lately and haven’t had much time to do anything on this site. I should be back around Tuesday hopefully though. Just letting you all know. Peace.

Myself ; Yourself

Genre: Drama, Romance

Plot Synopsis:

The town is in a quiet, rural area on the southern tip of the prefecture and borders the Pacific Ocean. Sakuranomori is the birthplace of Sana Hidaka, a sixteen year old high school student, who grew up with his childhood friends Nanaka Yatsushiro, & Aoi Oribe, his best male friend Syusuke Wakatsuki, and his twin sister Syuri Wakatsuki. Sana left Sakuranomori when he was eleven years old, but returns five years later living on his own in the apartment building Aoi’s family runs. Sana soon finds out that while some things have stayed the same, there are still just as many things that have changed.

Personal Recommendation:

Emo is the first word that comes to mind with this series. It’s starts of really nice actually, but then you just get tons of drama without any resolution. You explore deep dark mysteries and horrible things that were/are going on in each of the character’s lives. You’d think that’d make them interesting people, but the cast in the present day time of the show is rather uninteresting. Nothing finishes, it feels like a bunch of plot thrown around in what should have been more episodes. If you’re REALLY into drama, and don’t really question what a series throws at you, try this one out. It’s interesting and overwhelming, which is a turn on for some people. emmmmmmmotionallllll. Lots of heavy topics referenced such as murder, arson, incest and suicide. on that happy note, enjoy!

MÄR (Marchen Awakens Romance)

Genre: fantasy, comedy, action, adventure, romance

Plot Synopsis:

Ginta Toramizu is a 14-year old junior high student who is portrayed as a typical video game geek and underachieving student. One day and without warning, he finds himself summoned to the mysterious world of MÄR-Heaven, which he has only seen before in his dreams. In this fairy tale world, Ginta’s physical weakness is replaced with superior physical strength as well as incredible stamina and endurance.

Upon meeting a mysterious witch named Dorothy, Ginta is introduced to the powerful magical accessories and weapons called “ÄRM” (pronounced air-um). Dorothy plans to steal the mysterious ÄRM Babbo from a trap-guarded cave, and brings Ginta along to assist her, intrigued by his unusual strength and abilities. Babbo is revealed to be a extremely special and unique ÄRM, as he possesses a will of his own and the ability to speak. Displeased with what she has found, Dorothy gives Babbo to Ginta instead, departing with a warning that others will try to steal Babbo from him.

He continues on a journey of discovery, revelling in this new world, but when he encounters the farmer Jack and his mother he finds that he misses the real world. Ginta resolves to find a way to reach home while enjoying as much of MÄR as he can along the way, Jack journeying with him.

However, it is not long before Ginta finds out that the world of MÄR-Heaven is not as peaceful as it seems, as he is attacked by thieves wishing to steal Babbo. Upon meeting Alviss, the person who summoned him using a ÄRM known as the Gate Keeper Clown, he learns of the sinister ‘Chess Pieces’ who six years ago tried to take over MÄR-Heaven. Alviss reveals he did so in order to gain assistance from a ‘other-worlder’ in the upcoming war, as was done in the previous war.

Gaining both allies and enemies, the series follows Ginta as he opposes the Chess Pieces and their undead leader Phantom.

Personal Recommendation:

I have had the hardest time FINDING this anime anywhere online, so I actually am not finished with the series, yet I have watched enough to be able to tell you that this one is worth looking for. At 102 episodes, MAR is on the longer side of most anime you find, however it is an amazing series. The characters are brilliant, the plot is magnificent and fanciful, it works along at a good pace, plenty of character development, good humor, no pointless filler or aimless humor. No ecchi fanservice in this one folks. The battles are numerous, yet not overwhelming, and the tactics in each one vary, so it’s not repetitive at all. The plot throws something new your way constantly to keep you entertained, however you never lose sight of the basic storyline. The main character is likeable, and the animation itself is not bad at all. Great Series, just good luck finding it!

Kanokon

Genre: harem, fantasy, romantic comedy

Plot Synopsis: Kanokon’s story revolves around Kouta Oyamada, a young first-year high school student who moves from the country to the city and thus transfers to Kunpō High School. On his first day at his new school, he meets a beautiful second-year female student named Chizuru Minamoto. Chizuru asks him to meet her alone in the music room. When he arrives, she tells him that she is in love with him and accidentally reveals to him that she is in fact a fox spirit. Chizuru constantly and openly flirts with Kouta, even in front of others, which embarrasses him greatly. Soon after the story begins, a wolf spirit named Nozomu Ezomori transfers into Kouta’s school and class. From day one, she is all over Kouta which serves to embarrass him more and cause Chizuru to become annoyed at her new competition for Kouta’s affection.

Personal Recommendation:

Heavy fanservice makes it so that this series seems to lose most of the potential that it could have had. The plot is just lost amongst the main character being pressed into the female breasts. There are some instances where there is sort of a plot being introduced, and they try towards the end really hard to make up for lost time of fan service, but it’s much too late. It’s entertaining, but in the fanservice way. It’s part of that sort of stupid, ecchi entertainment genre, but it still goes a little too far. However, if you’re the type that enjoys that sort of thing. Hey, by all means, that’s cool too. Oh, I don’t like male characters that have high voices, so if you’re like me in that area, watch out, because this is one of those cases.

Lovely Idol

Genre: harem, music

Plot Synopsis: The Lovely Idols are a group of young idol singers who have become very popular. Managed by Tomohiro Fujisawa, there have already been two “generations” of performers, with a third about to debut. However, right before the third generation is cued onstage at a concert, Tomohiro learns that their debut has been delayed by the company president. He isn’t told why, but is left to figure out for himself what, exactly, the next generation is lacking. While considering what he should do to remedy the situation, he finds a young street musician singing and playing a guitar. Tomohiro may think he’s found the answer to his problem, but recruiting her could turn out to be harder than expected.

Recommendation:

Right from the opening theme, an annoyingly dizty and squeaky affair set to cleanly produced, but horribly generic elevator music, LoveDol tries to convince you that these people should be rooted for. “They’re ready”, the manager whines in the opening episode, as he’s cut down by the president of the company and told to buzz off and not come back until the girls truly ARE ready. Thus come 12 episodes of pure crap, pointless drama, no development, miserable jokes, and more annoying singing and dancing sessions and people saying “work harder” and “do better”. Not my bag, but hey, maybe it’s yours? Only one way to find out, go look.

Suzuka

Genre: sports, drama, romance, comedy

Plot Synopsis: Suzuka is a sports-themed romance comedy that intertwines the pursuit of love and athletics. The story is based around Yamato Akitsuki, a young man from the rural Hiroshima Prefecture moving to the big city of Tokyo, and his new next-door neighbor, Suzuka Asahina, a skilled high jumper. Yamoto falls in love with Suzuka and pursuing a relationship with her he joins the track and field team hoping to impress her. After joining, Yamoto discovers that he has the potential to become a top hundred-meter sprinter

Personal Recommendation (sort of):

This anime has what can be called the mother of all plotholes. The only apparent things you can get from the show is that the main character loves the best athlete in the school and that they fall in love. Plot advancement? What in the world does that mean? Not one sign of careful planning pops up in this thing as the plot ends up like pyrite: you hit it with a hammer and it separates into pieces going out every other way. If you can piece together anything in this, pat yourself on the back because you did better than me. Artwork, music is decent. Animation quality is bad. 4 out of 10.

DNA²

Genre: harem, science fiction

Plot Synopsis:

Junta Momonari is a high school student with an unusual problem. Whenever he becomes sexually aroused by a woman, his “female allergy” kicks in, causing the poor boy to throw up. Needless to say, he is a complete failure with women, with no hope in sight. Then, one fateful day, Junta is confronted by an attractive girl in strange clothing who claims to be from the future.

The girl gives Junta her name as Karin Aoi, and tells him about how the world has become terribly overpopulated in her time, to the point where having more than one child is a crime punishable by death. At the root of the problem is a family of “Mega-Playboys”: people with sexual charisma and impulses that lead each of them to have 100 children that carry the Mega-Playboy DNA, causing them and all their descendants to each have 100 children as well. All this started with a single Mega-Playboy, whom Karin has travelled back into the past to deal with.

Karin reveals to Junta that she is a “DNA Operator”. Her job is to make alterations in people’s DNA that will change their nature for the greater good of society. She intends to shoot the original Mega-Playboy with a DCM (“DNA Control Medicine”) bullet that will alter his DNA in order to relieve him of his mega-playboy qualities, thus preventing the overpopulation problem from ever happening. She can then return to the future to receive the reward that will allow her to finally get the “nice husband, cute pet, and sweet, sweet home” she yearns for. She confirms Junta’s identity, then, to his shock, promptly shoots him.

It seems that Junta, the boy who couldn’t look at a naked woman without throwing up, was destined to become the original Mega-Playboy later in his life. Escaping back to her time machine, Karin arrives to a message from her boss in the future. Her hopes for a commendation on a job well done are dashed when her rather upset employer points out that the DCM bullet she was supposed to use on the Mega-Playboy was left behind in the future. By shooting Junta with the wrong DCM bullet—one which Karin planned on using to create an ideal husband—rather than eliminating the Mega-Playboy, Karin actually created him!

Now unable to return to the future until she sets things right, Karin decides to improvise by making Junta get together with the only girl who does not give him an allergic reaction: his childhood friend Ami Kurimoto (despite her not feeling any affection for him). But there is a slight problem: not even Karin herself is immune to the Mega-Playboy’s charms!

Personal Recommendation:

It’s nice every once in a while to go back to the older animes (1994). Not to mention that if you can stand the slightly older look to it it’s actually a very good anime. The plot is interesting, even if the feel of the show can be a bit repetitive in the slighter aspects, but overall it’s a good-paced storyline with character development (i’d like to point out that even though they develop, they’re not very interesting characters to begin with) and interesting plot developments. If I had to say, I wouldn’t really revisit this anime, but I’m glad that I saw it in the first place. I’d give it around a 6 out of 10.

Raimuiro Senkitan

Genre: mecha, supernatural, ecchi, harem, comedy, adventure everything :P

Plot Synopsis:

The story takes place in 1904 (37th year of the Meiji Era) during the Russo-Japanese War in which former Japanese diplomat, Shintaro Umakai, becomes the teacher of a secret group of teenage girls, the Raimu Unit, who are based on the flying battleship Amanohara. The girl’s Konjiki (supernatural powers) enables them to operate unmanned mecha named Raimu against Russian Raimu units led by Grigori Rasputin who often attack the Amanohara while it’s travelling towards Port Arthur for the final battle.

Personal Recommendation:

Decent anime, it’s got lots of different aspects to it. I wasn’t entirely sure how to categorize it, it’s got different elements of each genre in it. It’s an adventure with lots of action, mecha, romance, it’s sort of a harem, but not in the inappropriate relationship way, and it’s kind of ecchi. Not really helpful I know, I’m sorry, but once you see it you’ll understand. The girls have great personalities and the story itself moves along at a decent pace, revealing central keys to the plot every now and then to keep your attention span. The action is pretty good, the comedy is all right, the story is very well thought out. Overall I’d give the anime an 8 out of 10, even though it isn’t really one of my favorites. I more respect this anime then actually enjoyed the content, but liking the content is a thing that varies on people’s interests and opinions, so don’t let that fool you.

Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka

Genre: drama, harem, romance

Plot Synopsis:

Jun’ichi Nagase attends a prestigious high school. He has the nickname Geno Killer since he was rebellious in middle school. This is used, inadvertently, to help a girl named Yuuhi Katagiri from trouble. She later transfers to his school, and in order to protect Yuuhi from danger, Jun’ichi is forced to kiss her. Not understanding what happened, she screams at him. Subsequently, it turns out that Yuuhi is his fiancé as arranged by their parents. Their parents discuss the matter and order them to go out together for a month to restore their relationship. If their relationship does not get better, the engagement will then be canceled.

Personal Recommendation:

A great anime in my opinion, or rather a great harem. The characters are all enjoyable, the protagonist MAKES A DECISION at the end. There’s internal conflict that’s realistic in the main character, and the series gives you a good understanding of the protagonist so that you can feel what he’s going through in cases without even being told. One of the primary girls reminds me of the main girl in Tsukaima No Zero, however she’s slightly less annoying. Some of the themes feel repetitive, because there’s not much actual plot development, it’s just sort of a struggle that every once in a while makes huge progress in the course of one episode. It’s sort of random in that sense, yet it’s a really beautiful realistic romance anime that I’d definitely recommend checking out when you have time.

Akikan!

Genre: romantic comedy, action

Plot synopsis:

Akikan (”Empty Can”) is the unlikely story of high school boy Kakeru Daichi, whose can of melon juice soda magically transforms into a human girl. More “akikan” girls begin appearing, each of them needing to be infused with carbon dioxide from their respective drink types to survive. The akikans were created as part of the ‘Akikan Elect’ to determine whether steel cans or aluminium cans are superior. The akikans must battle each other until only the strongest can type is left standing.

Personal Recommendation:

A relatively new anime, Akikan is another example of why I love anime so much. It’s the crazy plots and storylines that you just don’t find anywhere else. Not only is the storyline unique, it’s good humor and good action for a slightly violent romantic comedy. The battles themselves leave something to be desired, since most characters don’t have that wide range of attacks, however each character is very different from everyone else in their own way, and thus creates a different bonding atmosphere with whoever their “partner” is in the show. Lots of characters, not too much character development, decent action. The anime isn’t amazing in most technical senses, it’s only saved by the absurdity of its plot and the humor throughout the series. I’d say it’s somwhere around a 6 - 7.5 out of 10.

H2O: Footprints in the Sand

Genre: drama, psychological, romance

Plot Synopsis:

H2O’s story revolves around Takuma Hirose, a blind young male junior-high school student, though the cause for his blindness is undetermined. After his mother died an unexpected death, it left a deep emotional scar on him, which caused him to become very lonely and reserved. Due to this, Takuma and his uncle move from the city out into a rural area and Takuma is enrolled into a new junior-high school. At his new school, he meets several new girls, though three of whom he gets to know the most out of anyone else. They are, the firm and obstinate Hayami Kohinata, the kind and obliging Hinata Kagura, and the cheerful and mysterious Otoha. As Takuma interacts with these girls, his medical condition gradually begins to heal.

Personal Recommendation:

I haven’t watched too many psychological genre anime. However, this one is definitely the most down-to-earth enjoyable one I’ve seen out of most of them. In short, it’s one that will actually touch at your various emotions. The way it’s made up will get you really in touch with certain characters, so when they’re put into certain situations, you’re actually going to be angry when they’re getting picked on / beaten up, and grin when they get revenge (just rhetoric examples). All i’m trying to say is that this anime places it’s emphasis on details of each of the characters so that you can BECOME them only because you know and understand each one so much. It’s a slightly sad and touching series, like the movies where teens roll there eyes as the mother is crying at the previews. Check it out

Futakoi

Genre: drama, romance, comedy, harem

Plot Synopsis:

The story begins with Nozomu Futami returning to the town where he was born and raised as a child. He moves in near a shrine which houses a legendary stone that was rumoured to have been the place where twin girls turned into birds. The stone is rumoured to be the cause of an abundance of twin girls who are born in the town. The twins who turned into birds did so because of their love for a man who couldn’t choose between them. Shortly after Nozomu enters town he begins to run into the same problems as six pairs of twins fight for his love.

Personal Recommendation:

This one is definitely on the weird side. Instead of just your average harem, all the girls in this one come in pairs. Each of the girls is in a set of two, AND they’re all twins. A rather unique situation, the storyline that is presented is also creative and not the humdrum pattern that other harems follow. I mean, it’s similar but still the element of twins presents some interesting choices that the developer could make. And those peculiarities were definitely utilized and thus, an entertaining and fun series was made. I don’t know if I’ll make a separate video for it, I probably will. But FUTAKOI ALTERNATIVE is NOTHING like the original series just that it uses similar characters, but with a complete action-genre makeover. Yeah, i’ll upload the other video at some other point, or at least post this link for now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ77GXpmuG8

Onegai (Please) Twins!

Genre: drama, romantic comedy

Plot Synopsis:

Please Twins! is a story mainly revolving around three high school students: Maiku Kamishiro, Karen Onodera, and Miina Miyafuji. The three were drawn together by a photograph of their childhood home which later makes all of them seek out the house in the picture. However, the picture only has two children - a boy and a girl. Hence, only one of the girls, Karen or Miina, is related to Maiku. The only other identifying feature of the pair in the picture is that the boy and the girl have eyes of the same unusual color; a feature that furthers the ambiguity as all three of them have the same eye color.

The main concern of the male lead, Maiku, is that he is in love with both of the girls, and he does not know which one is his twin. In addition, the two girls are in love with Maiku, forming a love triangle that can’t be resolved until the truth of their relationship is known. The three main characters, mostly the two female leads, are in a predicament of wanting to discover their past versus the risk of losing a romantic relationship.

Personal Recommendation: If I HAD to give one word for this series, it’d be “beautiful”. It’s the most romantic, moving without being too unrealistic or otherworldly, playful anime EVER. I’m exaggerating a little, but I definitely loved it on multiple levels. The main character is just an average guy, one with many appealing characteristics to different stereotypes. He’s self-reliant, he’s had to make it without parents, he’s sort of a badass / cool, he’s an intellectual, yet he’s also able to be embarrased like when these girls suddenly show up at his home. 9 out of 10. Awesome!
